MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES AND THEIR ROLE IN THE CONTINUING EDUCATION

Abstract. The article deals with one of the modern trends in the development of online education - massive open online courses (MOOCs), which are an open and flexible form of continuing education with the use of information and communication technologies. The authors analyze the user’s audience of massive open online courses, and give the statistical data on the number of students, the information about the world's greatest providers of the new educational platform, the certification, and the prevailing languages of instructions and the courses with a large number of registered users.
