Abstract. The paper deals with the issue of measuring translation in terms of cultural implications. The basics of the paper are, on the one hand, translation functions stated by a contemporary Canadian academic J. Delisle and, on the other hand, translation space concept developed by native scholars. The paper is aimed at analyzing a culture forming function as one of the most important functions. The novelty of the research is determined by highlighting particularities of Target Text cultural integration into a new environment. The passages from "The Master and Margarita" by M. A. Bulgakov and their translations into French have served as the material for analysis. The authors draw a conclusion that neglecting a culture forming function results in a failed, disharmonious translation.
