PAINTERS, DIP YOUR BRUSHES: PICTURESQUE ECPHRASIS IN THE LINGUISTIC VEIN

Abstract. The paper characterizes picturesque artistic ecphrasis in the linguistic aspect by the material of the stories-ecphrases of the XIX century; describes the linguistic means of depicting the "other-world character of things taking place", among which one can name the representatives of the functional-semantic category of the inexpressible; determines the role of game with homonyms in the titles of the analyzed works; identifies and describes lexical-semantic groups revealing the meaning of the title of the story by N. Leskov The Sealed Angel ; it is shown how N. Leskov followed the traditions of M. Lermontov concerning the use of similar expressive means.
