RODION ROMANOVICH RASKOLNIKOV: SEMANTIC "LAYERS" OF F. M. DOSTOYEVSKY’S CHARACTER’S NAME AND LINGUISTIC MEANS OF THEIR CREATION

Abstract. The article reveals the layered semantics of the name of the protagonist of the novel "Crime and Punishment", demonstrates its relationship with the ideological contents of the whole book, and identifies the linguistic means of creating the semantic "layers" of the name. The author marks the important role of the graphic organization of the name due to which the iconic images of the letters, their symbolic and numeric meanings are actualized. The paper determines that the extension of the semantics is created by anagramming and outplaying of the initial meanings of the names, which result in the appearance of the large intertextual and intercultural relations of the novel with the stories of ancient Greece, the New Testament, history and architecture.
