FROM THE HISTORY OF THE STUDY OF N. S. LESKOV’S "THE CATHEDRAL CLERGY" IN FOREIGN SLAVIC STUDIES

Abstract. In the article the review of foreign studies of the novel "The Cathedral Clergy" by N. S. Leskov in the English language is done for the first time in Russian literary criticism. Basically, the theses and articles of the USA foreign researchers have been studied. The authors conduct the reviews of the scientific fields of research of N. S. Leskov’s creativity, but they focus on the genre specificity of the novel "The Cathedral Clergy". It is considered that foreign studies, on the one hand, rely on the scientific traditions typical of Russian research. On the other hand, they have their own special understanding of genre and stylistic peculiarities of the novel.
