Abstract. This article discusses the history of studying the vocabulary of the Old Tatar written monuments of the end of the XIII - XVIII centuries. In order to understand the development of the Turkic languages, the formation of literary norms it is necessary to conduct various kinds of research. In this regard the role of the study of written monuments is very important.
