Guseva Lyubov’ Alekseevna
Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K. D. Ushinsky

Abstract. The article is devoted to the question of the morphological status of modal words, not yet solved. Attempt is made to comprehend the unity and distinctiveness of semantic and grammatical features of this category of words. Traditional semantic-syntactic approach to introductory modal words is supplemented with characteristics of their formal morphological properties necessary to perform the functions of a reduced metatextual statement. The conducted observations allow us to consider modal words as a specific part of speech.
