EUPHEMISMS FOR TOTEM ANIMALS IN THE HUNTING VOCABULARY OF THE YAKUT LANGUAGE

Abstract. The research is devoted to studying taboos and euphemisms for totem animals in the hunting vocabulary of the Yakut language. Hunting played an important role in the Yakut economy therefore the Yakut hunting vocabulary is extremely rich. During hunting Yakuts used false names, euphemisms originated as a result of tabooing. The article examines hunting vocabulary associated with totem animals, identifies linguistic facts and describes Sakha traditional culture, rituals and beliefs.
