GENERAL SCIENTIFIC AND PHILOSOPHICAL ASPECTS OF THE TERM "CATEGORY" IN LINGUISTICS

Abstract. The word "category", having emerged in the discourse of the political life of Ancient Greece, changed its meaning and passed into philosophy, later becoming a general scientific one. The article analyzes the meaning of the notion "category" from the general scientific, philosophical and linguistic points of view. Special attention is paid to the last-mentioned, linguistic use of the term. Common elements of meaning with general scientific and philosophical terms are revealed, and the aspects specific to linguistics are identified.
