THE POSITIVE IMAGE OF A RESPONDENT IN THE POLITICAL INTERVIEW: MEANS, MODELS, PRAGMATIC EFFECTS

Borisenko Viktoriya Aleksandrovna
Southern Federal University

Abstract. A respondent uses I-utterances to show the diverse hypostases of "a good politician" in the process of constructing his/her positive image. In this case the pronoun of the first person singular is combined with various types of predicates, representing the multifaceted nature of the politician. First of all, this pronoun is combined with verbs representing the actions which have been taken by the politician in terms of resolving this or that urgent problem. In the politician’s replies the pronoun I is also often combined with the verb think , introducing a proposition that represents external, contradictory events. The predicative combination I think formulates the politician’s opinion on the problem under discussion, represents his/her constructive role in articulating the information relevant to the public.
