THE RUSSIAN ARCHAIC CHARACTER IN T. TOLSTAYA’S NOVEL "THE SLYNX" AND IN V. G. SOROKIN’S DILOGY "DAY OF THE OPRICHNIK" AND "KREMLIN MADE OF SUGAR"

Abstract. In the article the novel by T. N. Tolstaya "The Slynx" and V. G. Sorokin’s dilogy "Day of the Oprichnik" and "Kremlin Made of Sugar" are compared. While in general the artistic strategies of Tolstaya and Sorokin differ quite significantly, a number of unexpected parallels are possible between the novel and the dilogy: both authors refer to the problem of the Russian mentality. Particular attention is paid to the archaic models, since they are the basis for constructing the image of the national world both for Tolstaya’s and Sorokin’s works.
