THE ADYGHE (CIRCASSIAN) ETYMOLOGICAL STUDIES

Abstract. The article offers new versions of the origin of the words ажэ/аччъэ "goat for service", дыгъэ/ттыгъэ "sun", дыжъын/ ттыжьыны "silver", жейын/ччыйэн "sleep", "fall asleep", кхъуей/къуайэ "cheese", малъхъэ/махъулъэ "son-in-law", напIэ "eyelid", натIэ "forehead", папцIэ "spiky", пашъIэ/пачIэ "mustache", пхъуантэ/пхъуант "chest", пхъуы "daughter". The vernacularity of these words is proved by the material of the Adyghe dialects taking into account the latest achievements in the field of historical grammar and phonetics.
