Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of inversion in the aspect of literary translation. By the example of the study of free rhythms of J. W. von Goethe and their translations into the Russian and Ossetian languages the author provides the statistical analysis data of the frequency of the use of inversions in the original and translated texts. It is concluded that translators tend to show the peculiarities of rhythm and metrics of the original verse in the language of translation by means of preserving the quantity and "quality" of inversions in the translation.
