LINGUO-CULTUROLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF CARDINAL POINT DESIGNATIONS IN THE OLD ENGLISH POEM "BEOWULF"

Abstract. The article examines cardinal point designations in the Old English poem "Beowulf". The study is conducted using contextual and etymological analysis methods. The author identifies the role and place of such names in the story of the poem and their relation with other narration elements. The paper concludes that the Old English name semantics represents both Christian and Old Germanic mythological conceptions of cardinal points.
