Abstract. Shakespeare was one of the favorite authors of Tennyson, who often used certain images and motives of the great playwrights works. In the article the specificity of the transformation of the plot of "Loves Labours Lost" in Tennysons poem "The Princess" is characterized. Changing places of comedy characters, the Victorian poet uses Shakespeares plot to express his own attitude to the problem of the status of women in society. Stating in the tradition of Shakespeare the triumph of nature and love over the delusion of the heroine, Tennyson discovers in the work of the great playwright the principle, consonant with the Victorian era.
