Abstract. The article is devoted to the existence of the Negro dialect (Black English) in the poetic tradition of the American South and its evolution from conventional stylization to the introduction of really existing dialect forms into literary genres. The work considers the creative work of the white (I. Russell) and the Negro (A. Moore Dunbar Nelson, Elliott B. Henderson, Charles G. Shumen) poets of the 1880s-1900s. The analysis of thematic constants and character systems is given; an outline of the history of poetry in dialect from the sources (the beginning of the XIX century) to the 1900s is presented.
