LITERARY MYSTIFICATION, OR "ETHNIC OTHER" TECHNIQUES IN TIMOFEI BELYAEV’S STORY "KUZ-KURPYACH"

Abstract. The article examines the peculiarities of using literary mystification, or "ethnic other" technique in Russian literature. As an exam-ple, the author analyzes literary adaptation of the Bashkir epos made by the Russian writer T. S. Belyaev who came out as "ethnic other", i.e. the Bashkir narrator - sesen. The paper concludes that an obscure serf - an amateur writer, admirer of G. R. Derzhavin’s poetry, skillfully used his method of literary mystification in his own story "Kuz-Kurpyach" which won the acknowledgment and popularity among the contemporary authors.
