THE ENGLISH PREPOSITION AFTER: POLYSEMY STRUCTURE

Abstract. The article deals with the semantics of the English preposition AFTER in the whole variety of its uses, analyses relations between different meanings of the preposition, which help to judge about the possibility of spatial, temporal or any other prototype. The analysis of the implementation of the semantics of following in different meanings of this preposition allows determining the place of spatial and temporal meanings in the semantic network of the preposition, identifying the concepts relevant for their description and the specificity of the language coding of spatial and non-spatial relations in English.
