THE STUDY OF THE RUSSIAN GERMANS’ LANGUAGE IN THE CHRONOLOGICAL ASPECT

Abstract. The article is devoted to the history of studying the dialects of the Russian Germans that first fell in the field of view of philologists in the middle of the XIX century and subsequently became the object of research of a separate branch of science - island German dialectology. The author examines the main periods in the study of the dialects of the Germans in Russia in the domestic dialectology from the moment of its origin at the beginning of the XX century and up to now, focusing on goals, objectives, approaches and the most important results of research in each period. The paper addresses the problem of the prospects of island German dialectology as a science and highlights the possible ways of solving it, proposed by the German and Russian dialectologists studying the language of the Russian Germans.
