TACTICS OF COMPLIMENT IN THE ENGLISH COMMUNICATION

Abstract. This article focuses on a comprehensive review of the tactics of compliment in emotional and evaluative discourse with the help of methods of the modern textual analysis of English works. As a result of the comprehensive study of the tactics at the junction of sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, communicative linguistics and pragmatics the authors come to the conclusion that compliment is used in primary and secondary social relations at different distances of communication for its intimization and identification of speakers in the formation of a cooperation dialogue. The compliment tactics implements a masterful moment in communication, is characterized by variability of communicative moves and lexical and grammatical resources and can be successful in case of interlocutors’ sincerity.
