Abstract. The article examines the basic phonetic peculiarities of English variants in "Outer Circle" countries according to B. Kachru’s sociolinguistic theory of "three concentric circles". The paper provides the general characteristic of the West African, East African, Indian, Singapore, and Philippine variants of English at the phonetic and phonological level. The research findings allow the authors to conclude that new phonetic features in English variants just couldn’t be ignored taking into account the linguistic situation in the modern world. The growing amount of people, who express their culture by means of the English language using pronunciation models of their native language, contributes to changes in modern English phonetics.
Key words and phrases: фонетика, фонология, общество, вариант английского языка, западноафриканский английский, восточноафриканский английский, индийский английский, сингапурский английский, филиппинский английский, phonetics, phonology, society, variant of English, West African English, East African English, Indian English, Singaporean English, Philippine English
