SOCIO-CULTURAL ASPECT OF THE ADVERB IN THE NOVEL "SHATTERED" BY DICK FRANCIS

Abstract. The article deals with the socio-cultural aspect of the adverb used in the speech of the modern English. The author points to the special place of adverbs in the speech of a person, which serve not only to convey the evaluation characteristics of the surrounding reality, but also to identify hidden socio-cultural information. In this connection, the speech of the characters of fiction shows the social status, education, age and gender of the speaker. On the basis of the analysis it is ascertained that emotional-evaluative adverbs in combination with adjectives are used to a greater extent in the speech of young and middle-aged men belonging to the middle class.
