Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of Dostoevsky’s tradition reception in the novel "Christmas holiday" (1939) by William Somerset Maugham (1874-1965). For Maugham Dostoevsky was a literary guideline throughout his creative career. The English writer left numerous essays on Dostoevsky. As a result of the analysis of the novel "Christmas holiday", the author of the article concludes that W. Somerset Maugham borrows the elements of Dostoevsky’s poetics: the motive of duality, the motive of the innocent’s suffering for the guilty’s sins, the motive of the Russian world sophistication, the images of the humiliated and offended, the image of the underground man, the image of the righteous man, the image of the criminal philosopher, the tragic vision of the world and the man. The paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the text of W. Somerset Maugham’s novel "Christmas holiday" in this aspect.
