Abstract. The article examines the Russian translations of R. Frosts gnomic poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay", which is of key importance for understanding the authors poetics. More than ten translation versions are analysed. The researchers tackle a well-known problem - a translators ability to reconstruct formal and meaningful peculiarities of the original text. A comparative analysis allows concluding that typical translation failures include abandoning the vocabulary and metre of the original text.
Key words and phrases: , , , , , , USA poetry of the XX century, Robert Frost, gnomic forms, small genre literary works, aphoristic nature and laconism of a piece of poetry, philosophical and didactic meaning of a gnome.
