CONVERSION AND PART-OF-SPEECH THEORY (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH, FRENCH AND CHINESE LANGUAGES)

Abstract. The article examines the peculiarities of conversion and part-of-speech transfer by means of affixation in the English, French and Chinese languages. Functional and semantic peculiarities of part-of-speech transfer allow clarifying part-of-speech criteria in different languages. The peculiarities of part-of-speech transfer in English, French and Chinese are compared. The authors analyse the existing data on conversion and part-of-speech transfer in the mentioned languages and consider systemic nature, similarities and differences of part-of-speech transfer in the unrelated languages.
