MANY ARE CALLED: MOTIVE OF TEMPTATION IN A. IVANOV’S NOVEL "TOBOL"

Abstract. The article studies the function and dynamics of the temptation motive in A. Ivanov’s historical novel. For the first time, with the help of the analysis of recurring indivisible narrative units, the authors make an attempt to ascertain the dominants of the prose writer’s creativity and the direction of his artistic philosophy development. The novel "Tobol" is interpreted in the context of A. Ivanov’s creative work, in conjunction with the literary tendencies of the late XX - early XXI century. The change of the writer’s and the hero’s attitude to temptation, the replacement of it with other motives is qualified reasonably as a sign of originality and a significant step in the evolution of the writer’s artistic world.
