Abstract. The article is aimed at substantiating a proposition that "personal songs" in the broad sense of the term were everywhere in the Yakut traditional culture. The existence of the tradition of performing individual songs is evidenced, first of all, by the repertoire of famous singers, who preserved the "author’s" songs of people around them or legendary personalities as a kind of cultural memory. Basing on the analysis of the texts of two lyric improvisation songs and memoirs, the authors reveal that personal improvisation songs had been created up to the 40s of the ХХ century in the framework of the local tradition and have been preserved in the memory of the second-millennium culture representatives.
