EMOTIVE VOCABULARY IN J. D. SALINGER’S NOVEL "THE CATCHER IN THE RYE"

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of male and female emotive vocabulary presented in the novel "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger. The purpose of the work is to identify and describe the emotives used by the author to characterize his heroes when expressing emotions. The novelty of the research lies in the distribution of the specified lexemes into groups taking into account the degree of feeling naming and the determination of the detected rubrics productivity. The results show that women use verbal means of expressing emotions less frequently than men. At the same time, gender differences are noted in the use of words with different semes of emotionality.
