Abstract. The article analyses the usage of an independent infinitive in fiction syntax within the linguo-pragmatic paradigm. The paper focuses on describing the structural, semantic and pragmatic characteristics of a fiction text and identifying the status of an independent infinitive in its structure. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that an independent infinitive is examined just within the framework of the communicative and pragmatic approach adopted in modern linguistics. The findings indicate that an independent infinitive serves as a basis for the realization of communicative and pragmatic levels, which influence the verbal organization of a fiction text.
