LANGUAGE GAME PHENOMENON IN ROALD DAHL’S CREATIVE WORK (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE TALE "THE BFG")

Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the realization of the language game phenomenon in R. Dahl’s tale "The BFG". The study aims to correlate language game techniques with the dominants of children’s linguistic consciousness and to identify its functions in children’s tales. The authors for the first time examine the functional potential of language game in children’s literature. The findings indicate that in the analysed tale, language game is an instrument, which helps to establish contact with a reader-child and to capture his interest by means of ludic, phatic, meta-communicative, linguo-cognitive and other functions.
