STYLISTIC CONVERGENCE ROLE IN IMPROVING THE ENGLISH POLITICAL DISCOURSE EFFICIENCY

Abstract. The article is devoted to the relevant problem of verbal manipulation in political discourse. The author aims to reveal the mechanism of stylistic convergence, which ensures public speech efficiency. The findings indicate that the interaction of the stylistic and pragmatic functions of convergent stylistic means reinforces the pragmatic potential of a statement, which allows a speaker to accentuate meaningful text fragments and to endow them with particular expressiveness and persuasiveness. The originality of the study involves identifying the mechanism of the pragma-stylistic and semantic extension of political statements including convergence.
