PHONETIC VARIABILITY OF COMPOUND ABBREVIATIONS IN THE SPHERE OF THE GERMAN LONG-TERM DATA STORAGE TERMINOLOGY

Abstract. The article examines the phonetic peculiarities of the German compound abbreviations of computer terms by the example of the narrow subject area of long-term data storage. The paper emphasizes differences between text-to-speech synthesis of computer terms and their live presentation by a native speaker. The author considers the limits of standard pronunciation and the causes of phonetic variations of terminological abbreviations and acronyms conditioned by both computer artificial intelligence algorithms and terminology database and a speaker’s individual features.
