Abstract. The article examines extended metaphors in F. M. Dostoevsky’s epistolary text. The study focuses on identifying the optimal strategy to analyze them. The theory of conceptual integration (blending) considers the components of extended metaphors as the elements of input spaces. Such an approach is useful when identifying the meaning of a metaphor-blend. The blending theory securing the cognitive approach to analyzing the epistolary text is considered as an efficient technique to decode the meaning of the author’s metaphors in F. M. Dostoevsky’s personal letter.
