LINGUO-COGNITIVE ASPECT OF ADEQUATE TRANSFER OF FIGURATIVENESS IN LITERARY TRANSLATION

Abstract. The article justifies the thesis that figurativeness, being the basic characteristics of works of fiction, makes it impossible to reduce the process of their translation to mere reproduction, as it often occurs in special translation. The author describes the process of the adequate transfer of figurativeness, which requires synchronizing linguistic and cognitive aspects of translation. The cases of full, partial and distorted transfer of figurativeness are analysed by the material of M. Levy’s novel "Un sentiment plus fort que la peur? and its Russian translation.
