Abstract. The study aims to identify universal and individual author’s ways of presenting the concept, stemming from singularity of K. Balmont’s and V. Bryusov’s creative work and evolution of their personas. Scientific novelty of the paper is determined by the fact that the concept HAPPINESS, traditionally considered to be peripheral in K. Balmont’s and V. Bryusov’s poetry, has not received proper coverage in literary criticism and lies in analysing the changes that the notional, emotional, axiological components of the concept underwent in opposition of traditional and modernist interpretations of happiness. The research findings are as follows: the analysis of the concept puts a controversial emphasis on the issue of reinterpreting the phenomenon of happiness as a dynamic category developing in a poet’s intuitive creative thinking.
