Emotional Argumentation in Political Discourse: By the Example of Greta Thunberg’s UN Speech

Abstract. The article examines argumentative characteristics of political discourse by the example of Greta Thunberg’s UN speech. The research objective includes identifying specificity of arguments presentation in modern political discourse. Scientific originality of the paper is conditioned by the fact that the means of speech influence in this type of discourse within the current information space are still poorly studied and also by the fact that Greta Thunberg’s famous speech has not been previously investigated from the viewpoint of the emotional aspect of persuasion. The research findings are as follows: the author considers theoretical and applied aspects of studying political discourse, provides a comprehensive linguistic analysis of Greta Thunberg’s emotionally coloured speech, describes speech techniques and expressive means used to influence the audience.
