Abstract. The article considers the problem of translating the Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud’s works into Russian. The purpose of the paper is to identify and conceptually generalize prerequisites of the problematic path of psychoanalysis to the Russian-speaking readers. For the first time in the Russian humanities, an attempt is made to comprehensively study the problem - both in intra- and non-linguistic aspects. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion about legitimacy of highlighting the editorial, financial, stylistic, terminological, ethical and political-ideological levels of the phenomenon under study.
