Nuclear and Peripheral Cognitive Strategies for Abstracts of Scientific Medical Articles (by the Material of the Russian and English Languages)

Abstract. The study aims to contrast cognitive strategies used for the English-language and Russian-language abstracts of medical articles and to determine their frequency. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that a comprehensive contrastive analysis of the strategical organisation peculiar to the discursive space of the Russian-language and English-language abstracts is conducted for the first time. As a result, the strategy of informing is determined to be a macrostrategy of the world scientific communication as a whole; a Russian-speaking author favours strategies of generalisation and assessment, an English-speaking one prefers the strategy of comparison; the strategy of modelling a subject of scientific speech production reaches leading positions in the English-language abstracts, but in the Russian-language ones it is on outlying periphery.
