Abstract. The purpose of the study is to identify structural and semantic features of the Karachay-Balkar mictrotoponyms derived from phytonyms. The work is novel in that it is the first to analyse the toponyms derived from plant names, which are present in areas with high concentration of the Karachays and the Balkars. The sources of the considered toponymical vocabulary were the materials found in specialised lexicographical papers. The research findings have shown that the studied mictrotoponyms are represented by monolexemic, bilexemic and trilexemic nominations consisting of plant names, as well as of other words of different parts of speech.
Key words and phrases: карачаево-балкарский язык, оним, микротопоним, фитоним, апеллятив, субстантив, Karachay-Balkar language, onym, microtoponym, phytonym, appellative, substantive
