Abstract. The research aims to identify peculiarities of using cinematic techniques in the novel "Food Unit" by A. V. Ivanov. The article studies involvement of horror images and motifs developed in cinema and reinterpreted by Ivanov; describes film techniques: editing, change of narrative perspectives, colour imagery. Scientific novelty of the work lies in defining the genre nature of "Food Unit" as a film novel, i.e. a literary work oriented towards intermedial perception. As a result, it is proved that Ivanov taps into cinema as a medium for horror motifs, which allows him to create his own model of the vampire world against the background of the cinematic tradition.
