Abstract. The study aims to characterise the conception and narrative strategies of the Chechen writer A. Aydamirov, who depicted the period of time when the North Caucasian highlanders had been subjected by the Russian Empire army in his creative work. The paper is novel in that it is the first to analyse the motifs of death and dying in A. Aydamirov’s novel "Long Nights", which is reflection of the author’s historical and philosophical view on the past events. For the first time, Aydamirov’s narrative specificity is shown as a form of concrete historical and mythopoetic account of the tragedy suffered by his people. The attained results have shown effectiveness of demarcating the notions "narration" and "event of narration" when analysing the author’s content and style.
