Submitted: 01.04.2020
Abstract. The research objective includes identifying specificity of lexical representation of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in the modern English-language media discourse. The paper considers the lexical means used to create the event image, reveals attitude of the English-language mass media towards the Competition both at the meaningful and linguistic levels. Scientific originality of the study involves identification of the image structure and a comprehensive analysis of the media representation of the definitely positive cultural event. Special attention is paid to the strategies and techniques used to debunk the event image. The findings allow the author to conclude that use of pejorative vocabulary and inclusion of additional conceptual blocks into the media discourse contribute to creating a contradictory image of the Tchaikovsky Competition.
