Abstract. The article examines Oscar Wilde’s colour palette in his only novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray". Interest in this problem is conditioned by colourfulness of the author’s language (63 colour lexemes), an essential feature of his individual style. The research objective includes identifying components of the writer’s chromatic worldview. The study indicated wide use of explicit and implicit metaphorical colour terms, the author’s original colour nominations. The novel’s chromatic field includes eleven micro-fields. The analysis of the colour terms usage helps to reveal the mechanism of the characters’ images creation and contributes to perceiving the author as a representative of the aesthetic trend.
