Interpretation of the Touch Situation (by the Material of the English Verbs)

Abstract. The article deals with interpretation of the touch situation in the modern English language. The study aims to examine the role of the English verbs denoting touching in interpretation of the touch situation. The authors analyse cases of real contextual usage of verbs with the systemic meaning of touching in order to identify ways of interpreting the touch situation. The attained results make it possible to conclude that the speaker uses one or another touch verb depending upon how they interpret the touch situation: in a general way or focusing on its specific aspects.
