Abstract. The paper aims to show how the case system of a particular language correlates with its morphological system. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the authors provide a comprehensive paradigmatic-syntagmatic analysis of the case category in the Russian, Arabic and Dongolawi languages. The research objectives are as follows: to reveal similarities and differences in the system of morphological, phonological and semantic-syntactic means; to identify and systematize similarities and differences in the ways of expressing similar meanings in the analysed languages. A two-sided approach is applied to describe the case category, which fully ensures scientific validity and comprehensiveness of the study. Moreover, it allows identifying differential features of a certain case form of a particular language. The research findings are as follows: the Russian case system classifications traditionally differentiate six cases; Arabic has developed a three-case system; the Dongolawi language has seven cases.
