Abstract. The purpose of the study is to gain an insight into the current language situation among speakers of the German dialects in two largest regions of Siberia - Novosibirsk Oblast and Tomsk Oblast. The work is novel in that it introduces data from new field researches into scientific use. In addition to that, the language situation among speakers of the German dialects is for the first time assessed basing on the idioms forming it (they are represented by dialects of the Low and High German varieties) and their demographic power. The research findings amount to describing the language situation on the basis of a theoretical analysis of the facts obtained empirically while collecting material in the dialects in the field.
