Abstract. The research aims to identify features of numerical modifications of duality and secondariness in English and German folklore texts. The paper identifies and systematises lexemes that include a numerical component with the meaning of duality or secondariness in corpora of the considered texts. Scientific novelty of the paper lies in the fact that a cross-cultural study of the numerical vocabulary with the meaning of duality and secondariness in Western European folklore is carried out for the first time. As a result, the researcher has identified lexical means of number naming, has studied functional specificity of the numerical vocabulary under consideration, has discussed contextual examples, has outlined further lines of research on the issue of number symbolisation in folklore texts.
Key words and phrases: кросскультурная лингвофольклористика, фольклорный текст, числовая модификация, культурно-языковой факт, числовая символика, cross-cultural linguistic folklore studies, folklore text, numerical modification, cultural and linguistic fact, numerical symbolism
