"The Aquanauts" by S. Pavlov vs A. Belyaev: Creative Dialogue

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal correlation of S. Pavlov’s novel with works of the father of the domestic science fiction A. Belyaev. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher for the first time analyses influence of A. Belyaev’s creative work on the domestic science fiction, in particular, on S. Pavlov’s prose. The following conclusions are justified: firstly, existence of numerous intertextual links indicates similarity of A. Belyaev’s and S. Pavlov’s poetics; secondly, there is obvious continuity between S. Pavlov’s novel and Belyaev’s works: at the stylistic level, S. Pavlov eagerly uses elements of the scientific style, such as terms, and seeks to find a rational explanation even for pseudo-scientific phenomena; at the plot level, the following similarities are observed: similar background, similar characters possessing similar super-abilities.
