Abstract. The paper aims to reveal the peculiarities of Russia’s image representation in the English-language encyclopedic reference. The researcher estimates the level of representation of the Russian anthroponyms in the macrostructure of the encyclopedia under consideration, reveals compilers’ attitude towards the biographical subjects that is manifested in the choice of facts presented and linguistic means used. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher identifies components of Russia’s image in the American encyclopedic edition and compiles a list of the lexemes most frequently used to describe the Russian reality. The conducted research allows concluding that the use of pejorative vocabulary in the conceptual blocks "State System", "Women’s Status", "Social Injustice", "Repressions" creates a controversial image of Russia.
