Microfield "Der zweite Gang" ("Second Courses") as Part of Lexical-Semantic Field "das Essen" ("Food") in E. M. Remarques Novel "Der schwarze Obelisk"

Abstract. The purpose of the research is to determine the place of the microfield "Der zweite Gang" ("Second Courses") in the structure of the lexical-semantic field "das Essen" ("Food"), to show constituents of this microfield, properties and interaction of lexical units within it. This lexical-semantic field was built on the basis of the novel "Der schwarze Obelisk" ("The Black Obelisk") by E. M. Remarque. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that the texts of E. M. Remarques works have not been previously studied from the standpoint of the field approach, lexis with food semantics in the novel "Der schwarze Obelisk" is analysed for the first time. As a result, the pre-created lexical-semantic field "das Essen" was studied in detail, an analysis of the lexical units that possess semantics of food and belong to the microfield "Der zweite Gang" was provided, the place of the microfield in the considered lexical-semantic field was determined, the differential features, which can be used to divide lexical units within the specified microfield, were presented, their interaction was described.
